SUSTAINABILITY

For All Our Futures

As a member of the Dawn Farms group of companies, our philosophy is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our staff, to be active and positive contributors to the communities in which we live and work, and to be good stewards of our environment.

WE STRIVE TO BE

Better for You & Better for the Planet

In 2021, we launched the ‘All Our Futures Sustainability Programme’ in TMI. The purpose – To unite 4 manufacturing plants in the group across Ireland, the UK and Germany under one common sustainability strategy. This includes a commitment to Science Based Targets for greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction across all operations and supply chains.

Through the programme, we have put in place common goals and initiatives under our 4 key sustainability pillars to contribute to a sustainable future for all and ensure the long-term sustainable development of TMI and indeed across all of our manufacturing plants.

Environment

  • We purchase 100% of our electricity through renewable sources.
  • Through changes to our food contact packaging, we have eliminated 63 tonnes of plastic waste.
  • We have further projects in place to replace food contact plastic packaging with paper packaging in 2023.
  • All our food waste is converted into energy through Anaerobic Digestion.

Health & Nutrition

  • We launched a 100% Plant Based Cooked Sausage in 2022, produced in compliance with the 2024 salt reduction targets and meeting other health & nutrition criteria of ‘low sugar’ and ‘high protein’.
  • Reduced Sodium Cooked Bacon range currently in development – targeting up to 30% sodium reduction, without compromising on taste and flavour.
  • Successful launch of a world-first No-Added Nitrite Cooked Bacon.
  • Introduction of the first natural and clean smoking process for cooked bacon using PureSmoke Technology – delivering an authentic smoke flavour, without the impurities.

GLOBAL GOALS

Driving ambitious corporate climate action

We recognise that our industry is a major contributor to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and as a food manufacturer specialising in cooked protein, TMI recognise our contribution to GHG emissions and the need to reduce our emissions in line with science. In 2021, we began the process of evaluating our total carbon impact across our entire value chain, with the intention to set emission reduction targets in line with climate science recommendations, to limit Global warming to 1.5°C.

Our emissions reduction targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTI), committing to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 46.2% by 2030 from a 2019 base year, and to reduce scope 3 GHG emissions covering purchased goods and services by 35% per tonne of finished product within the same timeframe, in line with the 1.5°C trajectory.

Achieving these targets will not be easy and will require continuous improvement in our operational efficiencies, and in particular, partnerships, collaborations, and commitment in our value chains, to drive emission reductions in the raw materials they produce, and we source.
